Clinical Experience:

Currently I am working as Specialist B Anaesthesia at Al Nahda Hospital Muscat with the Ministry of Health Oman. This is a tertiary hospital dealing with almost all types of elective as well as emergency surgical procedures of ENT, Ophthalmology, Faciomaxiliary, General Surgery, Gynae and Obs etc.

I also worked for about one year at Khasab Hospital with the Ministry of Health Oman. Here I was concerned with the anesthetic management of most of the surgical specialties like General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynae & Obs, ENT and ophthalmology. I have also managed a number of polytrauma cases in this Hospital both in the operation theater as well as in the ICU. The Khasab hospital has a four bedded ICU with modern ventilators and monitoring facilities, dealing with a variety of medical as well as surgical and polytrauma cases.

Before joining MOH Oman, I was working as District Anesthetist and incharge of the anesthesia department at District Head Quarter Hospital Bhakkar Punjab Pakistan. This hospital was 150 bedded , dealing with the anesthetic management of almost all surgical specialties . I remained the head of the department for about five years.

During my service with the MOH Malaysia I was exposed to a variety of surgical specialties both elective as well as emergencies. This was a 225 bedded teaching hospital with six bedded ICU and two bedded high dependency unit (HDU).In this hospital I was exposed to the latest anesthetic drugs and latest anesthetic techniques both in OT as well as ICU.

I completed my training for post graduation at Sheikh Zayed post graduate medical and research institute Lahore. This hospital is one of the leading post graduate teaching institutes in Pakistan. Here a part from my academics I gained a lot of experience in the anesthetic management of all surgical specialties especially obstetrics and gynecological as well as trauma cases at my own, although I get the advice from my consultant and used to involve him in complicated cases. I worked in the Pre-Anesthetic Clinic and was an active member of Acute Pain Service .A part from other anesthetic procedures I gained a lot of confidence in performing epidurals. I love performing epidurals especially thoracic and intend to get more perfection in it. I have performed few thoracic epidurals for mastectomies and upper abdominal procedures.

I was involved in managing the ICU patient. I have a good exposure to some of the modern ventilators. I am also confident in performing all the ICU procedures like insertion of CVP line, arterial line, as well as chest tube etc.

The Lahore General Hospital Lahore is a teaching hospital. This hospital is well known for the Neurosurgical cases. I gained a good experience in managing the neurosurgical cases both emergency as well as elective. Being a member of trauma team, I have also gained a good experience in the cerebral resuscitation of head injury patients in ICU.

Specific experience

High risk obstetrics.

I have been exposed to the Anesthetic management and care of high risk obstetric patients. I, however intend to learn more in this field.

Acute pain service I have been an active member of Acute Pain Service (APS) of my hospital. I gained a lot of experience in APS during my service with the MOH Malaysia.

I have a good exposure to the following types of Acute Pain Services . The APS being provided for almost all surgical procedures like DHS, interlocking nail (femur, tibia), total knee replacement, laparatomies, hysterectomies, and C. Sections.

  1. Continuous epidural infusion e.g. Bupivaciane, Rupivacaine, Pethidine.
  2. Patient controlled analgesia. (PCA) e.g. Morphine, Pethidine.
  3. Sub-cutaneous morphine.
  4. Spinal morphine.

Nerve Blocks:-

I have a good experience in performing certain blocks. Like axillary (e.g. plating, radius and ulna), ankle, caudal (e.g. paediatric herniotomy), saddle (e.g. haemorroidectomies and anal dilatation). & Bier’s block (e.g. excision of ganglion). I am looking forward to gain more expertise in this interesting field.

Research and audit:-

  1. I did an audit on the anaesthetic management of eclamptic patient in the hospital audit meeting. Few changes were made in the management algorithm on the basis of this audit.
  2. Audit on the effects and management of hypothermia in the per operative and post operative patients.
