Clubbing, a clinical sign associated with various medical conditions, can be remembered using these five mnemonics:
- “CLUB” Mnemonic:
- C – Cyanosis (due to reduced oxygen)
- L – Loss of Lovibond’s angle (nail angle flattening)
- U – Uniform (nail plate thickening)
- B – Bulbous (enlarged fingertip)
- “WATCH” Mnemonic:
- W – Warmth of fingertips
- A – Anatomic (flattening of nail angle)
- T – Thickened nail beds
- C – Clubbed fingertips
- H – Hyperconvex (curvature of the nails)
- “FROST” Mnemonic:
- F – Fingertips (enlarged)
- R – Rounded (nail curvature)
- O – Oxygen deprivation (cyanosis)
- S – Softening of nail bed
- T – Tissues (fingertip swelling)
- “C-L-U-B-S” Mnemonic:
- C – Cyanosis
