Umbilical discharge can be a symptom of liver disease. Specifically, it can be caused by a condition called umbilical hernia with portal hypertension, which is a complication of liver disease. In this condition, liver damage leads to increased pressure in the portal vein, which is the vein that carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. This increased pressure can cause fluid to accumulate in the belly, which can lead to swelling and the development of an umbilical hernia. In some cases, this hernia can become infected and result in umbilical discharge.
