During training at AKUH, I got the opportunity to work in various disciplines of internal medicine. An account of my experience in different subspecialties of medicine is given below.

• General Medicine:
  

• Management of patients with multiple comorbids like diabetes and patients with hypertension, sepsis, electrolyte imbalance and connective tissue disorders.
  
• Assisting consultant in out patient clinic & ward
  
• Teaching & counseling of patients and their families
  
• Supervision and teaching of junior residents and interns.
  
• Procedures :Central and peripheral line cannulation & endotracheal intubation
  

• Endocrinology
  

• Management of patients with Diabetes and its complications
  
• Management of acute emergencies like diabetic Ketoacidosis, non ketotic hyperosmolar state,addisonion Crisis,myxedema Coma etc
  
• Assisting consultant in diabetes out patient clinics & wards

• Nephrology:
  

• Management of patients with UTI, Pyelonephritis, Genitourinary tuberculosis. ARF, CRF, renal transplant patients.

• Management of patients with acute coronary syndrome, rhythm disturbances and post CABG patients

• Gastroenterology:
  

• Management of patients with chronic liver disease, upper GI bleed ,peptic ulcer disease, liver abscess, FHF, Inflammatory bowel disease

• Procedures: Abdominal paracentesis, liver biopsy & assisting upper and lower GI endoscopies.
  

• Haematology & oncology
  

• Management of patients with leukemia’s, Thalassemias, Sickle cell anemia, lymphomas and solid tumours
  
• Procedures: Bone marrow aspiration and trephine, pleurodesis.
  
• Administrations of systemic and intrathecal chemotherapy, blood and blood products
  
• Counseling of patients and their families

• Pulmonology:
  

• Diagnosis and management of common pulmonary problems like asthma, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, tuberculosis and pneumothorax
  
• Procedures: insertion of chest tub, pleural tap and pleural biopsies.
  
• Managing and operating BIPAP & CPAP .

  • Neurology:
    
• Diagnosis and management of acute neurological disorders like Stroke, TIA and seizures
  
• Procedures: lumbar puncture, EEG, EMG and NC studies.

• Diagnosis and management of myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac tamponade, arrhythmias, stroke, epilepsy, meningitis/encephalitis, acute severe asthma, acute exacerbation of COPD, pneumothorax ,upper and lower GI bleeding, hepatic/uremic/metabolic encephalopathy, acute abdomen etc and other medical emergencies on a daily basis.
  
• Procedures:endotracheal intubations, resuscitation and line insertion .

• Management of critically ill patients with sepsis, cardiogenic shock ,severe asthma,COPD,respiratory failure, massive GI bleeding ,FHF and other
